hatha Yoga

Stretch, breathe, strengthen and balance. You will receive expert instruction in alignment, breath and yogic philosophy in this class. However, I am most interested in creating safe space so you can nurture yourself. Purpose, self compassion and a sense of belonging are more conducive to health and happiness than any posture. What’s important to me is how your yoga influences your life off the mat. Your internal balance, how you are shaped by your breath and your thoughts, and your relationship with yourself are my priority. Meditation arises effortlessly when your mind follows your body into stillness.

"Your enthusiasm and sincerity is evident but what I really like about your classes is that they are slow and challenging. In my experience (and at my age) slow and challenging is much better because you get the benefits of hard work without the danger of injury."

vinyasa yoga

Developing a deep relationship with the breath, you flow through a moving meditation. This strengthening practice brings balance, flexibility and health to your body, mind and spirit. With a focus on alignment and self awareness, vinyasa yoga can be as profound as it is creative and dynamic. This class weaves meditation into the practice for a holistic synergy of focus, intention and calm. Because this class moves with the breath, if you have injuries or have never practiced yoga, you may want to start with Hatha or a Beginner Series.

“I've been practicing yoga off and on for many years and Kate is one of the best yoga instructors I've ever had. Each time I take her class I'm impressed with the quality of her instruction.

Kate's classes always give the students time to experience their bodies to prepare for the poses to come. Her instructions are clear and precise, but she makes sure to give less flexible students (like me!) appropriate options so they can get the most out of the class. She shares bits of her vast knowledge of yoga practice and philosophy, but only as much as is necessary to enhance the experience of the class and establish a pleasant and relaxed environment.”

roll & release

Safely roll and stretch your body into ease and wellbeing. Target areas of discomfort, and reprogram your nervous system to release your deepest layers of tension.

“Your posture follows you like a shadow, and it has a ripple effect into everything you do… Your tissues need comprehensive, integrated strategies to restore optimal performance so that you can do what you want to do, better and pain-free… Fascia is the ubiquitous living seam system in your body that threads your tissues to one another.”

guided Meditation

Everyone can meditate. You don’t need any experience, or the ability to sit for long periods. The practice of focusing and calming your mind is beneficial for anyone living in our modern world. I offer various introductory techniques including mindfulness, breathing, mantra, mudra, visualization and silence. Positions include seated, reclined, and even walking meditation.

prenatal yoga

Embrace the gift of giving life! In a friendly, supportive environment, prepare for one of life's most profound physical and emotional experiences. Gently awaken your body, mind and spirit to the wisdom all birthing parents share. Yoga and meditation develop our awareness, inner peace and strength, as we breathe through a conscious pregnancy, labor and the transformation to parenting. For all levels and all trimesters.

"I want you to know how special your class has been over these past 9 months. Your spirit centers me and I am so happy to have found such a great class and fantastic instructor... I could go on and on about the class, really. I am so thankful that it has been a part of my pregnancy!"
"I LOVED your class for prenatal... I have recommended you up & down the city... I am so grateful & can joyfully say I had an amazing almost pain free labor & birth starting at 2:35pm and ending at 5:14pm!!!  I just made it to the birthing center on time and gave birth standing up, with my sneakers still on and pants around my ankles!"
"Your class really helped prepare me for labor - the onset and through the contractions."
"Thank you very much for your wonderful class. I can't say this enough because I really feel excellent after your class. Your yoga class was so helpful during my pregnancy and even after the birth. It was like water and air, an essential thing for me. I’ll definitely continue doing yoga. Thanks again for introducing me to yoga in a very positive and beautiful way."

I've wanted to thank you for what a blessing it has been to meet you and practice with you.  Not only did you create a space for your students to feel and move their bodies and emotions during pregnancy, but you created a community of mothers. I have friendships with such wonderful people because you encouraged us to share and support one another. I also credit a powerful and patient labor and delivery to how deeply I went within during your classes.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

”I attended Kate's prenatal yoga class regularly for the last few months of my pregnancy and sincerely appreciated all that she did to create a supportive, nurturing environment each week. She was incredibly responsive to specific challenges each of us faced during our pregnancies and offered specific solutions. I had wrist and shoulder issues during my third trimester that were extremely challenging. Many of the stretches and modifications that Kate shared with me enabled me to keep practicing yoga until two days before I went into labor. Additionally, many of the breathing and stretching exercises we did each week proved invaluable during a 36 hour labor. Kate's class was a real highlight of my week and I always left feeling a bit calmer, standing a bit straighter and much more centered.”

Yoga and meditation For Kids

Go on an imaginative yoga adventure, relax, sing songs and play games.
Kids have so much fun they don't realize they are developing calm & focused minds, growing strong bodies, improving balance, acknowledging feelings, allowing imaginations to blossom, and creating inner awareness and confidence! I approach teaching children with deep respect for the big souls in their little bodies.

PARENT TOT YOGA

Mobile babies and kids up to 3 years old use the whole world as their yoga mat! New parents will tone, strengthen and breathe. Cultivate an open mind, a peaceful heart and a sense of humor in this fun class focusing on the parent’s need to reconnect with their center, and child's need for independent discovery. We sing songs and fly and somehow sneak in a dynamic yoga practice.
Dads welcome! Toys you can share are invited.

"Rocco was singing 'bend and stretch' this morning."

Restorative yoga

“When you press the pause button on a machine, it stops. But when you press the pause button on human beings they start. You start to reflect, you start to rethink your assumptions, you start to reimagine what is possible and, most importantly, you start to reconnect with your most deeply held beliefs. Once you’ve done that, you can begin to reimagine a better path.”
~ Dov Seidman

Restorative yoga triggers the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting a sense of calm and lowering stress levels.

Restorative shifts us from a reactive state (being low-key shocked at a sudden noise) to a responsive one (noticing the sound without being affected as much or for as long).

Chair Yoga

Nurture yourself with a gentle yoga class that uses a chair for support. You don’t have to get up and down from the floor. The poses are done while sitting on or holding onto a chair. I offer variations, so you can can practice comfortably and safely with physical challenges. The gentle movements encourage better circulation and the standing poses with the support of the chair help you build bone density. Awaken areas of your body that have been inactive, strengthen your muscles and calm your mind with this gentle flowing practice. The class is open to all levels of students, including absolute beginners.
